Kenya is an International Union for Protection of New Plant Varieties (UPOV) member country. Plant Breeders’ Rights in Kenya enjoy Statutory protection vide the Seeds and Plant Varieties Act (Cap 326 of the Laws of Kenya) of 1972 which became operational in 1975. The Seeds and Plant Varieties Act was further amended in 1991. The Plant Breeders Rights Regulations (pursuant to the Act) was gazette on the 25th November, 1994. The Act and Regulations are implemented by the Plant Breeders Rights Office which fall under the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service.Â
With an understanding of the procedures and operations of the Plant Breeders Rights Office, WANAM offers services in respect of the registration, protection and management of Plant Breeders Rights in Kenya.
